California's Task Force 2: Behind the team that helped rescue Nepal
Thursday marks two months since a 7.8-magnitude earthquake devastated Nepal.
That quake, and a 7.3-magnitude aftershock days later, killed 9,000 people. But plenty of people were rescued, too, thanks in part to California's Task Force Two.
Journalist Vince Beiser gave an inside look at the team in a recent issue of The California Sunday Magazine. He joined the show with more.
The Wheel Thing: Re-imagining how cars are manufactured
Automakers have shown great success in minimizing or eliminating tail pipe emissions. All-electric vehicles produce none, of course, and gasoline-powered engines are radically cleaner than they were just a decade ago.
But now, some people are pointing to the manufacturing process as the next frontier. They note that much of the environmental impact of cars comes in mining, processing and assembling the component parts of the car.
OC Register motor critic Sue Carpenter joins us to talk about some new approaches that use cutting edge technology and some very radical new ideas that could provide a much greener, and perhaps cheaper way of putting together automobiles.
Read Susan's OC Register story about a prototype supercar manufactured using an alternative production method.

But after the initial joy of escape wears off, Davina starts to see a different darker side of her new love.
"I Believe in Unicorns" marks the directorial debut of Leah Meyerhoff and it's a story that taps very deeply into a lot of feelings many women had when they were in high school. Feelings of being trapped at home and wanting to explore the world and falling in love for the first time.
In her conversation with Alex Cohen, Meyerhoff talks about why she chose such a loaded topic for her first film, how she navigated sex scenes with such young actors and what Hollywood should do to get more women into the film industry.
