Supreme Court Blocks Trump from ending Obama-era DACA Program

In a 5-to-4 vote, the Supreme Court ruled that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, can continue for now. That’s the program where around 650,000 immigrants who came to the U.S. as young children were shielded from deportation. The Trump administration tried to end the program in early 2017 and in writing for the majority, Chief Justice John Roberts noted that the court’s ruling was not based on whether the program was legal. Instead, it ruled against the White House because of how it tried to end DACA.

Governor Newsom Issues Public Mask Order

Jail Deaths

It's partially thanks to cell phone footage that recent abuses of power, like the killing of George Floyd, have been witnessed by thousands. In the American jail and prison system that kind of police violence mostly goes unseen. But ProPublica reporter Thalia Beaty was able to uncover footage of one case: It's the story of Phillip Garcia, a 51-year-old man who died in the custody of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department after 44 hours of abuse.

'Our America' Virtual Reality Video Game

The national debate centered on race and policing feels different than times past. That sentiment has been echoed to us again and again by members of our community in recent weeks.
