Vaccine Bill Amendments
Several amendments were made today to a bill that would have put heavy restrictions on medical exemptions for vaccines. That bill was authored by Senator Richard Pan, a pediatrician, in response to the spike in measles cases in the U.S. and the increase in exemptions being sought. This change came a few weeks after Governor Gavin Newsom's administration raised concerns about the measure.

Clean Water Budget
Clean water IS a serious concern for more than one million Californians. But this compromise address that concern by taking money from ANOTHER environmental issue...climate change. The money that's set aside for the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) is supposed to do exactly what its name suggests...reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Clean water advocates say that safe drinking water IS a part of the fight against climate change. But climate change activists argue that this money is becoming a slush fund.

Americans in Mexico
Mexico is actively detaining and deporting migrants from Central America, Cuba and Haiti, but when it comes to the largest population of immigrants in that country, it is not from these other places, it’s from the US. According to a report in the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Mexican government recently did a population analysis and determined there are about 1.2 million Americans living in Mexico.

Trump Deportation
President Trump says millions of people living in the country illegally will be deported, beginning next week. In a pair of tweets Monday night — the eve of formally announcing his re-election bid — Trump said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement would next week "begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States.

American Homefront
During the eight months they've been deployed at the Mexican border, U.S. military personnel have had little direct contact with the people at the center of the mission -- migrants trying to enter the United States. Reporter Steve Walsh of the American Homefront Project visited El Paso, where soldiers said they're trying to keep their distance.
