LA Times sale closes
The sale of the paper to local billionaire Dr. Patrick Soon Shiong is finalized Monday, after eighteen years under the ownership of Chicago-based company, Tronc. That means The Times’ will also soon be moving its headquarters to El Segundo. The lease on the paper’s long-time building will be up July first.

Troubled Republicans
Ivanka Trump and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy will be the headliners at two big political fundraisers in California on Monday. The events are raising money for Protect the House, a PAC to help vulnerable republicans and keep GOP control of congress. We’ll talk with a political consultant, about how the support of the president (and his family) could help or hurt those republicans whose seats are in danger.

Community college conundrum?
Lawmakers voted Thursday to set aside about $6 billion for the California Community Colleges system, which serves more than 2 million people at 114 campuses. But growing friction over just how that money will be spent has led some faculty to speak out against their chancellor. They have two main concerns:
1. The decision to open an online community college.
2. Plans to link campus funding to performance.
