How to ensure safe drinking water for all Californians

About 360,000 Californians are served by water systems with unsafe drinking water, according to new analysis of State Water Resources Control Board data. Clean water is a basic human necessity, so it's obviously a problem that many Californians are struggling to get it. The real question is how do we solve that problem.
As our expert explained, many rural, underserved communities are faced with the "triple threat of drinking water," facing:
- Unsafe drinking water that can have serious health consequences
- Higher than normal water rates to pay for fixes to their water system's crumbling infrastructure
- The cost of buying bottled water because their tap water isn't safe to drink

The new LAPD Chief

Mayor Eric Garcetti named Michel Moore the new chief of the Los Angeles Police Department, succeeding Charlie Beck. Moore is a 37-year veteran of the force and has been around for many of the major shifts that the department has been through from Rampart to the Consent Decree to the L.A. Riots to the more recent complaints of Officer Involved Shootings, all as crime rates rose and then fell, then bumped up again slightly. We explore the future of the LAPD under Moore as we look back at the department's past.

Preserving Robert F. Kennedy's legacy, 50 years after he was assassinated

Tuesday is the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy in the Ambassador Hotel. It happened the night of the California presidential primary in 1968. Kennedy won the primary and was in a good position to win the Democratic nomination. Five other people were wounded that night, including Paul Schrade, a union official active in Kennedy's campaign. Jon Kalish reports now on Schrade's life in the decades following the assassination.
