LAUSD on Reopening

An update on the story many parents in this town are hungry for - how the Los Angeles Unified School District will resume in the fall. This school year ends in about 10 days ...and things will start back up again in 10 weeks. The hope is that students can have classes in person ...in some fashion...but there is lot to consider. Today, Superintendent Austin Beutner offered us a deeper glimpse into what he and his colleagues are thinking about this.

What Happens After George Floyd? California Leaders Consider Reparations

Protests and general unrest across the US are putting a renewed spotlight on generations of discrimination against black Americans. As state lawmakers here consider their response- and hopefully solutions — a bill by Assemblywoman Shirley Weber aims to take direct action by instituting a controversial concept: reparations. Under the bill, a committee would take the lead on educating Californians about slavery and recommending state settlements to remedy generations of inequality. That bill is scheduled to be heard in the appropriations committee TODAY.

From A Small Shop Owner's Perspective

Once again, the city of Santa Monica is implementing another curfew tonight…Like LA County's, it goes into effect from 9 pm to 5 am tomorrow morning...This comes after the city was hit by rioters and looters on Sunday following peaceful protests. Many shops have suffered insurmountable damages. Among them: Santa Monica Music Center, a family-owned and operated business since 1972.
