The Cranston Fire in Idyllwild

It has burned about 4,700 acres so far and is only about five percent contained. More than 3,000 people were evacuated including a number of kids attending summer camps in the area.

The state of the Yosemite Fire

Mariposa County has prompted evacuation and the closure of Yosemite National Park due to the growing threat of the wildfire.

Gun Ruling

Do Americans have a constitutional right to carry guns outside the home? A federal appeals court in San Francisco answered that question Tuesday. The ruling? The answer is yes for now. The Ninth Circuit Court issued the ruling in a case from Hawaii. But it could affect gun laws in nine Western states, including California.

California Emission Waiver

According to Bloomberg News, the Trump administration this week will move to revoke California's ability to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles. It would be a set-back in the state's effort to clear our air. The thing is, even before the federal Environmental Protection Agency existed our state has been able to make its own emissions standards. To get the waiver there are three criteria California must meet:

  •  ONE-  if the state can show that its own emissions standards are at least as protective as the federal standards… 
  • TWO - If it can show there's a compelling need for having different standards – like chronic poor air quality. 
  • and THREE- if it gives the auto industry enough lead time to comply, California gets the waiver.

Idyllwild Resident

Animal search and rescue efforts in Idyllwild

Nearly 700 personnel resources have been assigned to help with all aspects of the Cranston Fire. Among them are the staff of the Riverside County Animal Services. They've been searching and assisting in the rescue of animals affected by the fire.

Dirt Dog

Whether you're dining on a world-famous Dodger dog or grabbing one of those sizzling street dogs, wrapped in bacon, there aren't a whole lot of foods more iconic in Los Angeles than the hot dog. It's summertime, so Take Two went on the hunt for the most LA hot dog we could find and discovered a shop outside of University Park that says their dogs are Los Angeles incarnate. KPCC’s Austin Cross and Lori Galarreta report.
