Aliso Canyon Safety Report

California has been looking to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels like coal and oil and rely more on clean alternatives like wind and solar. For some time now, natural gas has been marketed asat the “bridge” fuel that can help us make that transition. But the Aliso Canyon gas disaster in 2015 threw that into doubt. A broken well at the underground gas storage field near Porter Ranch caused the nation’s largest uncontrolled release of natural gas. And THAT put gas storage under the regulatory microscope. A trial – of sorts – of Southern California Gas Company’s operation of the Aliso Canyon gas storage field started yesterday.
