COVID-19 is hitting local governments hard, and the City of Los Angeles is no different. A new budget report recommends eliminating over 18-hundred city jobs, including nearly 1-thousand police officers.

Earlier this week California released an ambitious 10-year plan that could reshape programs for young children– We're talking about things like paid family leave and universal preschool. But what seems to be missing from the plan is a concrete way to pay for any of this. All the new programs together could cost the state an additional $12 billion.

TEJANO STAR SELENA IS SUBJECT OF NEW NETFLIX SERIES
The short life of Tejano music star Selena Quintanilla was immortalized in the 1997 film SELENA ...released after she was shot and killed by the former manager of her fan club.... just a couple of weeks before her 24th birthday. Selena's life and musical journey, which were tragically cut short, still hold people's fascination. Enough so that a new take on her life is set to hit the TV streaming screen.

THE GEFFEN FINDS PANDEMIC SUCCESS WITH THE HELP OF A MAGICIAN
Warner Bros, the studio behind the upcoming “Wonder Woman 1984," and “Dune” said that ALL of its 2021 movies will premiere on the HBO Max streaming site and in theaters at the same time. That bombshell announcement was another devastating blow to movie theater owners. But what about theaters where stage productions have been shut down? Well, one local theater company has found huge success with a magic show and they’re going to try it again this weekend. KPCC’s John Horn has the story.
