CA legislature attempts to pass eviction relief, we check in with a teacher on the new school year and we pay tribute to Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman.

CA Eviction Relief

September 1st is tomorrow, which means rent is due for many Angelenos. But the state legislature's attempt to pass some renter relief for people who've been out of work because of the pandemic so that they're aren't evicted.

Veterans' Racial Stress

Moving on now to a story about veterans of color... Researchers have determined that the stress of living in a racist society can damage the health of people of color, including their mental health. But the concept is still not widely accepted among psychologists. There are some efforts to change that, including in the Veterans Affairs system.

The Influence of Black Panther

Sad news broke late this past Friday that sent a mournful chill throughout American pop culture. Chadwick Boseman had died. The 43 year old actor -- best known for bringing to life Black Panther on the big screen-- had been battling colon cancer… Prior to playing the Marvel superhero he’d played many real-life American heroes: Jackie Robinson in the film “42”, James Brown in the movie “Get On Up” and later Thurgood Marshall in “Marshall. But it’s his role as King T’Challa who becomes Black Panther that solidified the actor’s legacy.
