Coronavirus: Kathryn Barger on the Economy

First how L.A. County might start opening businesses... and other aspects of life. The Board of Supervisors met on Tuesday to discuss this, among many other things.

Coronavirus Work Share

One out of every six workers in the state has filed for unemployment since the coronavirus hit California. Economists say for many companies, there's an alternative to mass layoffs. It's called Work Sharing. But employers say the application process for this lesser-known California program is outdated — and long waits have been stressful for their workers. KPCC's David Wagner has more. 

Coronavirus Border Cities

To help stem the spread of the coronavirus, the U.S.-Mexico border has been closed to non-essential travel since March 21st. People with temporary work visas, students and those traveling for business are still allowed to enter the U.S. But strict limits have been placed on those entering for tourism, shopping and family visits. And now the U.S. and Mexico have extended those restrictions through May 19th, at least.
