With rent and mortgages overdue for many who can't pay the bills, two LA lawmakers have introduced a package to help people keep roofs over their heads. We talk with one of them.

Coronavirus Homeless

In this crisis, the prevailing advice to "just stay home" is hard for those who don't have one. We are also updating you on what LA's homeless community and providers are doing to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in shelters and on the streets. But there are significant efforts to move many people outside inside, coming from state and local governments.

Homeless Outreach Worker

To help move homeless people indoors, LA county is relying on homeless outreach workers. Katrina Johnson is one of those people. She works for the Homeless Outreach Program Integrated Care System, an organization that connects unhoused people with social services. We thought it would be a good idea to check in with her about her work on the ground.

  • Katrina Johnson, HOPICS Mental Health Therapist and Homeless Outreach Worker

Coronavirus Virtual Passover

Tonight, as the sun goes down, Jewish people will sit at their dinner tables to celebrate Passover. Only, this year, the holiday seder will be different. Given our current circumstances, people may not be able to get all the traditional foods they usually eat, and they most certainly won’t be able to gather around a packed table of friends and family. We discuss how we can celebrate religious and cultural holidays during the pandemic.

Guest:

  • Rabbi Ken Chasen of Leo Baeck Temple in Los Angeles

La Luz Case Dismissal

Tuesday, a California appeals court dismissed the criminal case against the leader of the Mexico-based religious group known as La Luz Del Mundo. Naason Joaquin Garcia was arrested in L.A. this summer and charged with child sexual abuse and human trafficking. He’s since been in an L.A. jail cell. Tuesday’s court opinion raises some questions and we want to help answer some of those.

Randy Newman Song

KPCC asked Grammy, Emmy, and Oscar-winning- songwriter Randy Newman to help us promote physical distancing with a message for our audience. But he went one step further and wrote a song about it.

On The Lot

Networks are coming up with creative solutions to keep some productions going during this time of quarantine but are still struggling to fill their schedules. Time for your dose of showbiz news.
