California is Reopening in June - Are We Ready?

The end is near - of all the pandemic-related closures that is. At least that’s what Governor Gavin Newsom announced yesterday when he said that with an "expectation of an abundance of doses coming in from the federal government...we can confidently say by June 15 that we can start to open up as business as usual." So on June 15th, life will resume as normal. But the virus is still out there. Are we ready?

OC DA Todd Spitzer Talks Tough on Crime - and Reform

In February, Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer announced a series of initiatives to combat what he called systemic racism and mass incarceration throughout the system. But just last month, a relative newcomer to Orange County politics -  attorney Peter Hardin-  said Spitzer's initiatives are not enough, and launched a campaign to challenge the incumbent DA for his seat. So Earlier this week we talked to Spitzer about his record - and his goals.

Rooting Out Extremism in the Military

After the January 6 Capitol insurrection, the Pentagon ordered all service branches to conduct "stand downs" - meetings with the troops to discuss extremism in the armed forces. In recent weeks, there's been a rush to complete the stand downs. But as Steve Walsh reports for American Homefront Project, some observers say the military must do more to root out extremists in the ranks.
