FW Maggie Gyllenhaal & Dakota Johnson Interview 12.17.21

It’s FilmWeek on KPCC! So glad to have you with us. Earlier in the program, we heard about the new film “The Lost Daughter.” It follows Leda, a professor on sabbatical in Greece, played by Olivia Colman. Colman’s character quickly becomes drawn to a mother named Nina, played by Dakota Johnson. The story explores complicated truths about motherhood that are sometimes difficult for our society to accept and even understand. Maggie Gyllenhaal adapted Elena Ferrante’s novel in her feature directorial debut. KPCC/LAist’s John Horn spoke with both Gyllenhaal and Johnson about the film’s themes. It’s in select theaters and on Netflix starting Dec. 31. It’s rated R.
