‘The Vast Of Night’ Director Andrew Patterson, An Interview With The Up-And-Coming Filmmaker On His Debut Film

In his directorial debut, Andrew Patterson hit last year’s film festival circuit with his movie ‘ The Vast Of Night ’. The sci-fi flick has received critical praise, with many citing Patterson as the next up-and-coming film director on the scene.

‘The Vast Of Night’, starring Sierra McCormick and Jake Horowitz, follows the story of a switchboard operator and local radio DJ who set off on investigating a strange audio frequency that leads them to discover a mysterious threat to their town. The film debuted at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and is set to make its streaming premiere on Amazon Prime Video. The film has gone on to receive a number of accolades, including nominations for the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay and Best International Feature Film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. In his first movie, the Oklahoma native has made quite the impression. His directing has received praise for his creative decisions and use of a limited budget.

Today on FilmWeek, KPCC’s John Horn talks with director Andrew Patterson on the making of his first film, his reaction to the critical acclaim he’s received, and what projects the director has lined up next.

‘The Vast Of Night’ is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video .
