Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom
The Oscar-nominated documentary " Winter on Fire " takes viewers inside what started as peaceful protests in Kiev's Independence Square but soon turned violent, culminating in February, 2014 as the Euromaidan Revolution.
Protesters demanded the immediate impeachment of President Viktor Yanukovych after he had backed out on a popular agreement with the European Union, which would have included political reforms, and instead signed a treaty for a multibillion-dollar loan from Russia.
We talk with producer Evgeny Afineevsky about his experience documenting the revolution.

Director of Oscar-nominated documentary ‘Amy’ on the life of the talented yet troubled singer
Amy Winehouse was on track to be one of the biggest musical artists of the 21st century.
Her powerful vocals and mix of different musical genres won her lots of early praise and eventually five Grammy Awards in 2008 for her sophomore album ‘Back to Black.’ But, as has been the story with a number of other young, talented musicians like Winehouse, underneath the confident public persona lay deep-seated personal issues she struggled to navigate.
Her struggle with alcohol finally culminated in her death in July of 2011 at the age of 27.
Asif Kapadia’s Oscar-nominated documentary ‘Amy’ offers a look inside the life of the British singer through archived footage, unreleased tracks, and interviews with those who knew her best.
