Triple Play: the Dodgers take game 3 in a historic win

The Los Angeles Dodgers outlasted the Toronto Blue Jays with a 6-5, 18-inning win in Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night, producing a lengthy list of records topped by Shohei Ohtani as they took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven matchup. Ohtani was the Dodgers’ designated hitter a day before he was to pitch in Game 4 and had one of the most memorable games at the plate in World Series history. In a game where both teams’ offenses stagnated for most of the extended period, it was their respective bullpens that had to make the difference. The teams were at a stalemate until Freddie Freeman stepped up at the bottom of the 18th, hitting a walk-off home run that finally put the game to bed. Joining us this morning to discuss is Nick Roman, host of Roman on the Radio and former host of All Things Considered on LAist and Molly Knight, sportswriter and author of the The Long Game baseball newsletter.

Women are taking testosterone to boost their sex drive

Women are taking testosterone to boost their sex drive. Is it safe?

In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of women prescribed or seeking testosterone treatment. The trend seems to be driven by increasing awareness around hormonal health, in part thanks to influencers on social media touting the benefits of testosterone. But also, as menopause becomes a more mainstream conversation, women are seeking testosterone therapy to mitigate some of the symptoms. The FDA has not approved the use of testosterone for women, and data is lacking. But there’s a lot that doctors and scientists do know about how testosterone can support women’s health. Today on AirTalk, Larry is digging into what we do and don’t know about this burgeoning use with board-certified Urologist and Sexual Medicine Specialist Dr. Ashley Winter M.D. Have you taken testosterone? What have the impacts been?

Proposition 50: basics of the ballot proposal & money spent by both campaigns

Although this November won’t have any statewide races for elected officials, there is a major proposition on the ballot that could impact representation in the state. Proposition 50 is on the ballot next month, which will allow voters to choose whether or not California reacts to Texas’s redistricting proposal, at the expense of the Golden State’s independent redistricting commission. The conversations surrounding the proposition are quite nuanced, so for this hour of AirTalk, we’ll dig into the basics and share how this can impact representation in certain parts of the state.

Today on AirTalk, we re-air our conversation on Proposition 50. For last week’s broadcast, we were joined by Frank Stoltze, LAist civics and democracy correspondent, and Brianna Lee, civics and democracy engagement producer at LAist. We also discussed the impacts on the Central Valley with Politico reporter Camille von Kaenel, and Orange County impacts with the dean of social ecology at UC Irvine, Jon Gould.

A new book takes a look at the complicated and cute history of cat-human relations

Dog people need not read any further into this paragraph, this one’s for the cat lovers. Now that the dog people are gone — cats, am I right? Little dudes whose job it is to be cute, fluffy, and lie around our apartments while we grind away at our respective keyboards to afford them the wet food they so desire. In this situation, who has really domesticated who? A new book explores that question in earnest, and gives readers insights into man’s second-best-friend (that’s right dog lovers, we cat lovers know where we land on the totem pole). Joining AirTalk this morning is Jerry Moore, author of Cat Tales: A History.
