Who is behind the heavily funded ‘yes’ and ‘no’ campaigns for Prop 50?
The November 4th deadline to vote on Proposition 50 is nearing, and both parties have spent a significant amount of money on the measure, either to see the prop succeed or fail. Prop 50 will allow California to temporarily redraw district maps to favor Democratic seats in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections. With so much political control on the line, proponents and opponents alike have spent tens of millions of dollars on their respective campaigns. The ‘Yes’ on Prop 50 camp has spent almost $97 million while the ‘No’ campaign is closer to $42 million. And each side has its mega donors that have been making headlines for the amount they are pouring into ads. So, who are the financial backers of Prop 50 and why has this special ballot measure seen some much monetary investment? Joining us to discuss are Jeremy B. White, senior politics reporter at Politico, and Guy Marzorati, California Politics & Government Desk correspondent for KQED.

Paramount lays off 1,000 workers amid interest in Warner Bros. merger
It’s been reported that Paramount is laying off more than 1,000 employees, roughly 5 percent of its staff, with potential for further layoffs to happen at the studio. Reports note that the cuts seem to impact many branches of Paramount. Deadline released a memo shared with employees on the layoffs, with the CEO noting that Paramount is looking to build a “strong foundation for the future.” What complicates the situation is the studio’s reported interest in merging with Warner Bros, which would create further questions around both studios’ future staffing. Joining us on AirTalk to discuss this all is Joe Flint, media and entertainment reporter for The Wall Street Journal.
