Tariffs Check-In: Stocks continue to swing and SoCal ports may face global trade repercussions
Stocks are sharply swinging down, up, then down again on Wall Street as markets try to assess the potential damage from President Donald Trump‘s global trade war. European and Asian shares saw dramatic losses, the leading U.S. index is flirting with bear market territory, and oil prices are sagging. We check in on the latest market swings with Wall Street Journal chief economist reporter Nick Timaraos and Kevin Klowden, executive director at the Milken Institute Finance. We also talk with Mario Cordero, chief executive officer for the Port of Long Beach, about the potential impacts on the region’s port systems. The Ports of L.A. and Long Beach together oversee roughly a third of the country’s imports and exports. And we’ll check in on the impact tariffs are having on the auto industry with Jessica Caldwell, head of insights at Edmunds, an online resource for automotive inventory and information based in Santa Monica.

Out of wedlock but still together. Why do some couples never get married?
Marriage is often seen as the end goal for romantic relationships. You meet someone, fall in love, and then the wedding bells. Today on AirTalk, we'll hear from listeners who are in committed, but unmarried relationships. Why have you and your partner decided not to get married? Do you get a lot of judgment from friends and family? What are the advantages or disadvantages? Give us a call at 866-893-5722 or email us at atcomments@laist.com.
Shhhh! Talking all about libraries with LA’s city librarian John Szabo
John Szabo didn’t grow up in Los Angeles, but he has certainly made his mark on the city. In his 12 years at the Los Angeles Public Library, he has grown a vision for the organization that extends beyond the walls of its 73 locations. He says what keeps him awake at night “is the sheer amount of opportunity that our libraries have to do good in the community.” Now, his service and dedication is being recognized more broadly. Library Journal has named Szabo “Librarian of the Year.” Joining us this morning on AirTalk is the City Librarian of the Los Angeles Public Library, John Szabo.
