Guns Are Increasingly Used During Crimes, According To Analysis Of California Department Of Justice Data
Since 2014, violent crime in California has been on the ascent. Now, a new analysis from the Public Policy Institute of California is sounding the alarm on another troubling trend from data from the California Department of Justice: an increase in gun incidents during a crime, specifically homicides and aggravated assaults. California has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation. Even so, guns are contributing to crime numbers as 59% of the overall increase in violent crime since 2019 involved a firearm. Joining us today on AirTalk to discuss these most recent findings is Magnus Loftstrum, policy director of criminal justice and a senior fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California.
More Adults Not Only Live With Their Parents, But They Like It. Should We Care?
More than half of young adults now live with their parents, according to a Harris Poll conducted for Bloomberg News. But here’s the real surprise – they like it. The report says about 90% of those surveyed said adults shouldn’t be judged for moving back in with parents. Is this really such a bad thing or a cultural change we should welcome? Share your thoughts by calling 866-893-5722 or email atcomments@laist.com. Joining to discuss is Paulina Cachero, personal finance reporter for Bloomberg News who’s story is “Nearly Half of All Young Adults Live With Mom and Dad — and They Like It” and Laurence Steinberg, Distinguished University Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at Temple University and author of “You And Your Adult Child: How To Grow Together in Challenging Times.”
