Parenting Series: How much do our parents shape our child-raising instincts?
Learning how to be a parent, just like any form of education, tends to build off of a frame of reference that one has. In the case of parenting, most people first develop instinctual parenting habits through what they learned as children, through the likes of their parents. Given the amount of research done over recent generations, it does question what parts of our family’s parenting should be recycled or gotten rid of entirely. In today’s segment on parenting, we’ll delve into how parents’ instincts are shaped and ways to stop the recycling process is Dr. Andrea Temkin-Yu, a clinical child psychologist at Weill Cornell Medicine and author of the forthcoming book Supporting Your Teen's Mental Health: Science-Based Parenting Strategies for Repairing Relationships and Helping Young People Thrive.
Survey: 25% of adults think they have undiagnosed ADHD
A new survey commissioned by The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and College of Medicine finds that one in four adults think they may have undiagnosed ADHD – attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Less than half of those respondents have shared their concerns with a physician though. Still, more people – both adults and children – are being diagnosed with ADHD than ever before. Some experts say the implementation of telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic meant people have more access to diagnosis and treatment. Today on AirTalk, we talk about self-diagnosis, co-existing conditions that complicate the disorder, what to look for, and the various ways to address concerns. Joining to discuss is Justin Barterian, psychologist and clinical assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral health at The Ohio State University, and Susan Dillon Tschudi, an L.A. County based LMFT with a specialization in assessing and treating ADHD in adults. Do you suspect you have undiagnosed ADHD? Have you noticed other people in your life self-diagnosing? The Palm Springs Tiki is captured in a new book of photographs
If you’ve visited Palm Springs you’ve likely sensed the oasis-like atmosphere it emanates. The desert community has embraced this concept by leaning into the fantasy of a Polynesian paradise, one where visitors could stumble into bars, restaurants, lounges, all with a single theme – Tiki. Now, a new book attempts to capture the unique history of Palm Springs as a Tiki outpost through photographs, vintage postcards and other ephemera. Joining us today on AirTalk are the co-authors of the book, Sven Kirsten and Peter Moruzzi.
Peter and Sven will be in conversation about Palm Springs Tiki on Saturday, November 2nd from 5-6 pm at WACKO at 4633 Hollywood Blvd.
