CA passes law allowing more apartments to be built around transit hubs, so what now?
A new bill seeks to address lagging transit ridership and the state's housing shortage in one fell swoop. SB79 would upzone thousands of parcels throughout California, allowing for more dense housing near major transit centers. “It's hard to think of a better place to build multi-unit apartment buildings, townhomes and condos, than around the highest quality public transportation,” said California Sen. Scott Wiener, who introduced the bill. Joining us today on AirTalk are Bridget Lawlor, incoming executive director of Pasadena Heritage and Scott Wiener, author of SB79 and democratic state senator representing the state’s 11th district.

Triple Play: Dodgers Playoffs Latest
The Los Angeles Dodgers are on track to be the first repeat World Series champions in a quarter century, helped along by superb starting pitching, a flame-throwing rookie in the bullpen, and strong defense. They were swigging and spraying from bottles with — oops — NLCS on the labels while partying in the team’s batting cage after a wild 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in 11 innings on Thursday night. “We’re going to find a way to win a ballgame even when things aren’t going our way,” utility player Kiké Hernández said. NL West champion Los Angeles took the best-of-five NL Division Series 3-1 and will play either the NL Central-winning Milwaukee Brewers in the best-of-seven NL Championship Series that starts today. Today on AirTalk, the triple play, including Nick Roman, host of Roman on the Radio and former host of All Things Considered on LAist, as well as A Martinez, host of NPR’s “Morning Edition,” are convening to talk about next steps for the team.

Checking in on how fire survivors’ recovery efforts are going
As almost everyone in Los Angeles and Southern California is aware, the recovery efforts from the devastating fires from early this year are still well underway. The fires ravaged entire communities in mere moments, but the rebuilding will take much longer. The Department of Angels is a nonprofit founded in the wake of the fires with the goal of supporting recovery efforts. This morning, they’ve released new survey results showing how these efforts are faring. Today on AirTalk, Department of Angels cofounder Miguel Santana joins the program to share the results of their most recent survey. Of course, we also want to hear from fire survivors: how has your personal recovery gone? What are some roadblocks you are facing, and what are some wins you’ve had?
