Hate Crimes Amendment to Defense Authorization Bill

The Senate approved legislation on Thursday that would expand the federal hate crime law and include those who are victimized because of their sexual orientation. The measure is attached to a larger Iraq war spending bill, which may prevent the White house from vetoing the bill as promised. California to Ban In-Home Air Purifiers

The California Air Resources Board banned in-home ozone air purifiers Thursday, citing detrimental health effects associated with exposure to ozone. Larry discusses the decision with Bart Cruz of the California Air Resources Board.

MWD to Add Fluoride to Local Water Supplies

The Metropolitan Water District is set to start adding fluoride to tap water throughout Southern California, with the intent of aiding dental care. The Art of the Motion Picture Illustrator

Many of us can rattle off a list of jobs that are integral to movie making. A new exhibit at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honors an essential, but rarely publicized, member of the filmmaking team: the illustrator. "The Art of the Motion Picture Illustrator" features over one hundred storyboards, sketches, and watercolor renderings by three artists for films including Bambi, The Birds, The Ten Commandments, and Dick Tracy. Larry talks with Ellen Harrington, the Director of Exhibitions at the Academy, about the illustrators and their work in dozens of films from the late 1940s through the early 1990s.
