Anti-Spam Law: SB 186
Governor Davis just signed SB 186, authored by state Sen. Kevin Murray (D-Culver City). The Bill would make it illegal for companies to sent spam into Californians' in-boxes, making them subject to a $1,000 fine per e-mail and up to $1 million for blitz campaigns. Kevin Murray, Democratic state Senator from the 26th district (Los Angeles), joins Host Larry Mantle to discuss SB 186. Also joining Larry is Nick Gillespie, Editor-in-Chief of Reason magazine.
Update On Federal Do-Not-Call List
On Wednesday, a federal judge blocked the FTC's upcoming implementation of the national do-not-call list. Then yesterday, Congress passed legislation to allow the list to go forward as planned. Hours later a second federal judge put a halt to the list, arguing that it violated commercial free speech. Larry talks with Deborah Thoren-Peden, a Los Angeles attorney with the law firm Pillsbury Winthrop.
