President Bush's Address To The Nation On The Economy
It's a race to get a historic $700 billion bailout package done to save the economy from total implosion. Or is it? Lawmakers are getting calls from constituents to slow down and many Americans are outraged at the idea of bailing out banks from a disaster of their own making. But nobody wins if the entire economy is pulled under as a result. What's the answer? Larry asks the experts and KPCC's listeners. Guests include Jack Shaw, Congressional reporter for MarketNews International, and David Menefee-Libey, Professor of Politics at Pomona College.
Time Out! McCain Suspends Campaign
McCain's slogan is "Country First" and with a devastating economic crisis, he's announced plans to suspend his campaign to return to Washington and work on the bailout. But not everyone is buying his sincerity: the latest polls show Obama gaining a small but meaningful lead in the all-important battleground states. Is McCain really putting "country first" or is he trying to buy a strategic pause so his campaign can regroup? Larry asks KPCC's listeners. Guests include Brad Sherman, Democratic Congressman from the San Fernando Valley's 27th congressional district, David Menefee-Libey, Professor of Politics at Pomona College, and Dan Schnur, Director of the Jesse Unruh Institute of Politics at USC.
Time Out! McCain Suspends Campaign Continued
Continued discussion of McCain's suspension of his campaign.
Stand Against The New Barbarism
Has the Left, who once defended individual freedoms and fought fanaticism, shifted dangerously with their ideals of tolerance to a position of indifference, masked by relativism? Leading French intellectual, Bernard-Henri Levy, BHL as he is universally known, argues that the Left has made too many compromises with those who threaten our fight for freedom, equality and individual rights. Larry talks with BHL as he offers a new political and moral vision for progressives to combat evil in all its guises and also discusses questions like, "Are human rights Western or Universal?" Levy's new book is "Left In Dark Times."
