Metrolink Investigation
The National Transportation Safety Board has begun its investigation into the cause of Friday's tragic Metrolink crash. Larry Mantle talks with NTSB spokeswoman Kitty Higgins about what investigators have learned so far. Larry also talks with KPCC reporter Brian Watt from the Chatsworth station, and former NTSB senior director, Barry Sweedler about the costs and benefits of Positive Train Control, a technology that could may have prevented the accident.
Proposition 8: Same Sex Marriage Ban
On November 4, California voters will decide on Propositon 8, titled "The California Marriage Protection Act." If approved, an amendment will be added to the State's Constitution that would prohibit same sex couples from marrying. That amendment would reverse the State Supreme Court's decision which currently recognizes gay marriage in California. Larry Mantle talks with Jennifer Kearns, spokeswoman for the Proposition 8 campaign, and Dale Kelly Bankhead, general campaign manager for No on Proposition 8.

What's so great about reading? True, it's a solitary practice, which could be replacing time spent developing important social networking skills. However in her book, "The Solitary Vice," Mikita Brottman argues that without reading we're doomed to lead lives of despair and mental decay. Larry talks with Brottman about reading as a tool of both self-exploration and a way to see the world through the eyes of others.
