Backlog At DNA Lab
Larry Mantle discusses the inability of the DNA lab to process samples due to a lack of funding. How is this affecting crime solving here in California?
Orange County Journalists Roundtable
Larry Mantle talks with Orange County Register op-ed column editor Steven Greenhut, OC Weekly senior editorial writer and columnist, Gustavo Arellano, and William Lobdell of the LA Times, about the latest news events and developments in Orange County.
Life In Guantanamo
Larry talks with former Guantanamo Bay detainee Moazzam Begg about his harrowing experience as a prisoner in the controversial facility. A highly educated British Muslim, Begg spent three years in U.S. custody, including eighteen months in solitary confinement before being released without charge in January of 2005.
The Dilemma Of The Gifted Child
Author Alissa Quart joins Larry Mantle to talk about the current trend to nurture and even create giftedness in children. Her new book Hothouse Kids explores the many classes, specialized camps, competitions, and other enrichment programs available to gifted children. Quart argues that for many gifted kids the intense pressure to excel early on creates self-esteem problems and performance anxiety in adulthood. She also takes a serious look at how the No Child Left Behind Act has reduced funding for programs for gifted children in America's public schools.
