On Sunday, the UC Institute for Labor and Employment released a study that finds that California outpaces the nation in union membership. The divergence between the state and the nation is linked to key factors that distinguish California from the rest of the country. The study is a comprehensive analysis of union membership in California, and Larry Mantle discusses its findings with co-author and the director of the Institute for Labor and Employment, Ruth Milkman.

Who Killed Daniel Pearl?

French author and philosopher, Bernard-Henri Levy retraced Daniel Pearl's final footsteps, and those of his killers, in order to investigate the Pearl slaying. Levy's findings led him to conclude that Daniel Pearl was not killed because he was Jewish and American, but rather because he was about to reveal the existence of a stunning network of terrorists with connections to high-ranking elements of the Pakistani government. Mr. Levy's new book is called Who Killed Daniel Pearl (Melville House).
