San Francisco's Proposition K
San Francisco residents will soon vote on a measure that would decriminalize prostitution in the city. Proposition K would not legalize prostitution, because state law forbids it, but the measure would prevent local law enforcement from arresting or prosecuting sex workers. Larry takes listener calls on Proposition K.
Proposition 6
Larry and guests take on another proposition that will be on the California ballot next month. This time, it's Proposition 6, otherwise known as the "Safe Neighborhoods Act" to those who favor the plan. The measure asks voters to approve an extra 365 million dollars from the state's general fund for police to enforce tougher crime penalties for crimes like like gang violence. Independent analysts say the price tag may actually be higher: 500 million dollars a year. And those who oppose the measure site cost as the main reason to vote it down. Larry talks with Cyn Yamashiro, Spokesman for "No" on Proposition 6, and Michael Reynolds, Spokesman for "Yes" on Proposition 6.
Cherie Blair
Cherie Blair would have had an interesting story even if she hadn't been married to Tony Blair. In her new autobiography, "Speaking for Myself," Blair recounts her story, from her working class childhood to her life balancing her work as a prominent human rights lawyer with her role as the wife of the British Prime Minister. She joins Larry Mantle to talk about her memoir and the extraordinary life she has lead.
What We Do And What It Does To Our Planet
How are we as individuals connected to the planet and its existence? Thomas Kostigen, who has been writing about global warming and the environment for the past two decades, has traveled the globe to uncover what life is like in the planet's most environmentally tenuous areas. In his new book "You Are Here," Kostigen examines the link between our consuming lifestyles and environmental catastrophes that devastate many parts of the world. He joins Larry Mantle to discuss the vital connection between what we do and how it affects the world we live in.
