AirTalk for October 21, 2002

Most people think that pirates are a thing of the past. In his new book, Dangerous Waters: Modern Piracy and Terror on the High Seas (Dutton), seaman and journalist John Burnett explores the world of highly trained contemporary pirates and maritime terrorists who organize armed assaults on cargo ships, supertankers, passenger ferries, cruise ships and yachts.

Magic: The World of Magicians, Carter The Great & The Magic Castle

AirTalk for October 21, 2002

Take a walk with Larry Mantle into the mystical world of magic and the secretive world of the magicians who practice the craft. That’s what author Glen David Gold found when he began writing Carter Beats the Devil (Hyperion), a novel about the famed vaudeville magician, Carter the Great. No magicians would talk to Gold about their fraternity, so he undertook detailed research to glean everything he could about the world of magic. According to Mike Caveney, a magician, historian, and author of Carter the Great (Mike Caveney’s Magic Words), Gold got it right. Larry Mantle speaks with Gold and Caveney about the world of magic, Carter the Great, and the Magic Castle. For more information about Mike Caveney's biography of Carter the Great, go to MikeCaveney's Magic Words.
