LAX Expansion Project Nears Vote
At 10:00 am this morning the LA City Council will hold the last public hearing on the LAX expansion project before voting on it. Larry Mantle talks with Mayor Hahn, KPCC reporter Rachael Myrow, Jack Weiss, LA City Councilmember for district 5, and Jack Kyser, Chief Economist, Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation.
Proposition 69
Larry Mantle discusses Proposition 69 with experts Bruce Harrington, Sponsor of the Proposition 69 Initiative, and Maya Harris, director of the No on 69 Campaign, about Proposition 69. This proposition would expand California’s DNA database to include every convicted felon in the state. Prop 69 would also allow the collection of DNA evidence from people arrested on suspicion of murder and rape, and beginning in 2009 from anyone arrested on suspicion of committing a felony.
Anglican Commisson Demands Apology
A report issued Monday by the Anglican Church criticized the decision by the Episcopal Church to consecrate a gay bishop last November and demanded an apology from the American church. The report also strongly recommended that the Episcopal Church refrain from promoting clergy who are living in same-sex relationships. Larry Mantle discusses the report’s recommendations with Episcopal Church rectors, one conservative and one liberal. Joining him is Reverend J. Edwin Bacon, Jr., Rector, All Saints Church in Pasadena, and Reverend Canon Brian Cox, Rector, Christ the King Parish in Santa Barbara.
Governor Schwarzenegger Endorses Stem Cell and Open Primary Initiatives
On Monday, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger endorsed Proposition 71, a $3 billion measure to fund embryonic stem cell research. Dan Weintraub, columnist for the Sacramento Bee, joins Larry to discuss the Governor's position.
The Secret Service
Larry Mantle talks with former director of the Secret Service, Brian Stafford about the new National Geographic Channel documentary “Inside the U.S. Secret Service,” that takes a look at the job from inside the bubble of protection around the President.
