LA ARCHDIOCESE RELEASES PRIEST ABUSE RECORDS; Propositions 78 & 79
LA ARCHDIOCESE RELEASES PRIEST ABUSE RECORDS
According to records released yesterday, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles allowed at least eight priests to remain in contact with children even after receiving complaints that the clerics had a sexual interest in minors. The documents reveal a pattern of shuffling priests accused of sexual abuse to other assignments and may offer the most unfiltered look yet at the way the archdiocese responded to child-molestation allegations involving its priests over the last half-century. Seven accused priests remain in active ministry today, according to the archdiocese, with at least one abuse allegation against each of them. Larry and his guests discuss the latest developments in the Los Angeles priest abuse case. Larry Mantle talks with Raymond Boucher, lead negotiator for the plaintiffs, Mike Hennigen, attorney for the Los Angeles Archdiocese and Donald Steier, attorney for the accused priests.
Propositions 78 & 79
Larry Mantle moderates a special AirTalk broadcast on Propositions 78 and 79 from the Chinatown Public Library. Both propositions propose discount drug programs for limited income, uninsured Californians. Prop 78, a pharmaceutical industry-backed initiative, proposes voluntary discounts by drug companies. Prop 79, sponsored by consumer groups, requires companies to sell drugs at a discount or face penalties. Backers of each measure claim their approach would save consumers more money. Larry Mantle talks with Proposition 79’s Matt Klink and Proposition 78’s Anthony Wright.
