AQMD Seeks to Cut Air Pollutants by 50%
The South Coast Air Quality Management District today unveiled a number of control measures to help the region reduce smog-causing emissions by 50% by 2020. Under the AQMD's plan, the region must implement tougher emission standards for vehicles and ships and accelerate the turnover of existing fleets and incentive programs to fund the replacement of diesel equipment. The plan also calls for emission reductions from lawn and garden equipment, heavy-duty trucks, motorcycles, wood-burning fireplaces and gas stations, among other things.
