Bailout, Countrywide and Accountability

AirTalk for October 6, 2008

The bailout bill passed Friday, but the Nikkei index, London Stock Exchange, and the Dow continue to slide. Meanwhile, Bank of America, the owner of Countrywide, has agreed to a loan-abuse settlement that may help 125,000 California homeowners rework their mortgages and possibly keep their houses. Good news for some...but the overall economic picture is still bad for many, many others. Meanwhile the first Congressional hearing into what caused the nation's financial markets to collapse started today. Larry gets the latest from Ben Diehl, California's Deputy Attorney General, Orson Aguilar, incoming Executive Director of the Greenlining Institute, Larry Harris, Fred V. Keenan Chair of Finance and Professor of Finance and Business Economics at USC Marshall School of Business, and Tom Hamburger, Staff Writer, Los Angeles Times.

New ads are dredging up infamous events from 20, 30, even 40 years ago. Is this really what voters want to hear so close to the election? Larry dissects what's being said and how voters are responding with Tom Hollihan, Professor of Communications, USC's Annenberg School of Communications and Brooks Jackson, Director of Annenberg Political Fact Check.

With movies and lore surrounding the sinking of the Titanic in 1912 one question remained unanswered: why did the great ship go down so fast? In his new book "Titanic's Last Secrets," author Brad Matsen follows divers John Chatterton and Richie Kohler as they attempt to uncover the final ghosts of the ship's disastrous maiden voyage.
