Iraq Update

AirTalk for October 6, 2005

In his latest press conference, President Bush said we’re making progress in Iraq. The White House also praised the Iraqi government for backing off rules that threatened to disenfranchise that country’s Sunni population from next week’s Constitutional referendum. But these accomplishments are overshadowed by insurgent attacks that are getting deadlier every day, with the US death toll rapidly approaching 2,000. Revelations have also surfaced that only one battalion of Iraqi security forces is capable of operating independently of US support. Larry talks to experts about the current conditions, the referendum, and what we can expect in the coming months in that war-torn country. Larry talks to Lawrence Korb of the Center for American Progress, military analyst Lt. Col. Hal Kempfer, James Phillips of the Heritage Foundation and Time magazine senior correspondent Bobby Ghosh.
