Larry talks with Dr. Thomas Garthwaite, Director of the Department of Health Services for LA County, and Zev Yaroslavsky, LA County Supervisor representing the Third Supervisorial District.

After the disaster, Waxman wrote, and Congress passed, legislation to prohibit using federal money to drill the needed tunnels to extend the Metro Red Line subway west under Wilshire Boulevard. Now, 20 years later, an expert panel convened at the request of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority concluded recently that the Wilshire subway, a top priority of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, could be built safely. Larry Mantle talks with Congressman Waxman and Jaime de la Vega, Deputy Mayor for Transportation in the office of Mayor Antonia Villaraigosa about giving the Westside subway another look.
