Vatican Speaks Out On Gays In The Priesthood

The Vatican's long-awaited document on gays in the priesthood was officially released today coming a week after an Italian Catholic news agency posted a leaked copy on its Web site. The document affirms that men with "deep-seated" gay tendencies shouldn't be ordained but that those with "transitory" tendencies could be, if they've overcome them for three years. The nine-page paper also says gays should be treated with respect and shouldn't be discriminated against. Larry talks with Tod Tamberg, Media Relations director for the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and Tracy Wilkinson, Los Angeles Times Rome bureau chief.

President Bush Presents A Tougher Immigration Reform Plan

This week President Bush is pushing a new immigration reform strategy. His plan pairs a guest worker program for foreigners with border security enforcement, an attempt to satisfy both his business supporters, who believe foreign workers help the economy, and his conservative backers, who take a hard line on illegal immigration.
