Cracking Down On Skid Row Drugs

On Tuesday, City and state officials promised a new attack on the continuing problem of drugs in L.A.'s skid row area, beginning with a crackdown on rampant drug dealing in the area, which police say generates roughly one-fifth of the city's drug arrests. The Los Angeles Police Department plans to install video surveillance cameras on skid-row streets and increase the number of undercover detectives and uniformed patrol officers, officials said. Larry talks with Lt. Paul Vernon, spokesman for the L.A.P.D., and Bob Erlenbusch, Executive Director of the LA Coalition to End Hunger and Homelessness.
