United Nations forces are expected to play a central role in peacekeeping and helping to pull together a transitional government in Afghanistan, but the challenge will be huge. The country has been unstable for decades, and the many factions and ethnic groups have little experience with cooperation. How does the U.N. typically engage in peacemaking, and how should they proceed in Afghanistan? Larry Mantle speaks with author of Afghanistan's Endless War (University of Washington Press), Dr. Larry Goodson, and Director of the U.N. Studies Program at Yale University, Bruce Russett.
