Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's is proposing to extend medical coverage to millions of uninsured Californians while making healthcare for everyone more affordable. Details of the administration's plan are still being formulated by a special team of advisors, but many healthcare experts and some of Sacramento's most powerful interest groups doubt that it is possible for the governor to fulfill all of his public promises for increased healthcare coverage for Californians.

Are California's community colleges failing?

A new report finds that less than 10 precent of California's Community College students actually earn Associate's degrees, and that only 25 percent of students intending to transfer to 4 year colleges end up doing so. This according to a new report released by the Public Policy Institute of California. Larry Mantle talks with study co-author Ria Sengupta, Senator Jack Scott, and Nancy Shulock about the findings and their implications.

After an incredibly close and contentious election, President-elect Felipe Calderon is now poised to take power in Mexico. But Calderon is inheriting a host of problems: a weak economy, corruption, and a serious crime problem--so serious it's hurting the country's important tourism industry. Larry talks with Mexico City-based reporter Monica Campbell, a freelance reporter for Newsweek, The San Francisco Chronicle and The Christian Science Monitor. Campbell recently returned from Oaxaca where tourism is taking a serious hit. Larry also talks to Pamela Starr, Latin America analyst at the Eurasia Group about the challenges facing incoming President-elect Calderon.
