Preview of the King Drew Trauma Center Hearing Today
The County Board of Supervisors will hold a hearing this afternoon about the closure of the trauma unit at King-Drew Medical Center, while its problems are fixed. City Councilwoman Janice Hahn introduced a motion on Friday asking for the trauma unit to remain open until the outside consulting firm delivers its assessment report in the new year. The head of the Department of Health Services, Dr. Garthwaite, cited a study in a letter to the Board of Supervisors on Friday that says less than 1% of the most serious cases would have to go more than two miles to be treated at another hospital. Janice Hahn, City Councilwoman for the 15th District and Zev Yaroslavsky, LA County Supervisor, join Host Larry Mantle to discuss the issue.
