Death of Yasser Arafat; Rick Steves
Death of Yasser Arafat
Yasser Arafat, Chairman of the PLO, is dead at the age of 75. He died in a French military hospital in the early hours of this morning, Paris time. Arafat led Palestinians for almost forty years, leaving the Palestinian Authority in flux, with an ongoing intifadah and the peace process in tatters. Now, the eyes of the world are on the transfer of power and upcoming elections in Gaza and the West Bank. Joining Host Larry Mantle to discuss the passing of Yasser Arafat is Dr. Moustapha Barghouthi, Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative, Rabbi Gary Greenebaum, Western Regional Director of the American Jewish Committee, Daniel Sokatch, Executive Director, Progressive Jewish Alliance, Laila Al-Marayati, board member of the Muslim Public Affairs Council in Los Angeles, and Jack Miles, Senior Advisor to the President of the J. Paul Getty Trust and a Senior Fellow with the Pacific Council on International Policy.
