Veteran's Day; What now GOP?; Filmweek
Veteran's Day
As with past wars, today's returning veterans face a host of problems, including post traumatic stress disorder, financial concerns, and, often, a feeling that the American public is disconnected from the fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. On this Veteran's Day, Larry talks with Paul Riekhoff, an Iraq War Veteran who founded the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America. The group acts as a conduit between vets, the media, politicians, and the American public.
What now GOP?
At his press conference the day after the election, George Bush called it a thumping. And with the loss of both houses of Congress, the Republican Party will no doubt do some serious rethinking about its strategy. Does Tuesday's loss mean the Rove strategy of appealing to the base is no longer valid, or is it that the party didn't do enough to support conservative social issues? Or was the political strategy sound, but unable to overcome American disillusionment with the war in Iraq? Yesterday Larry talked to Democrats about the shift in DC. Today he talks to Duf Sundheim, Chairman of California's Republican Party and John Fortier of the conservative American Enterprise Institute, about the Republican strategy moving forward.
