President Bush’s New Cabinet Appointments
President Bush chose White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales to succeed Attorney General John Ashcroft, who resigned yesterday. Gonzales is controversial, because he authored a 2002 memo that claimed the right to waive certain parts of anti-torture laws. NPR’s Senior Washington editor, Ron Elving, joins Host Larry Mantle to discuss the appointment of Gonzales, as well as the appointment of Don Evans as Commerce Secretary.
Tunneling Technology
Transit officials are discussing proposals to use cutting-edge tunneling technology to extend the Metro Red Line system and the 710 Freeway. Larry Mantle speaks with geotechnical expert Dr. Dan Eisenstein about these projects and new tunneling technology that may make them feasible.
Ray Charles
Larry Mantle talks with staff writer for the Los Angeles Times Geoff Boucher, and the director of the new film “Ray,” Taylor Hackford about the new film about the life and music of Ray Charles.
