Hollywood Revitalization

The famed Broadway Hollywood building, a 1927 Renaissance Revival structure at the corner of Hollywood and Vine is being restored and converted into loft condominiums as part of the residential revitalization of Hollywood. The restoration project includes the re-lighting of the Broadway Hollywood neon sign that sits atop the building and first lit up the corner in 1931. Larry Mantle and Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles City Councilman from the 13th District, Kate Bartolo, Senior Vice President of Development for the Kor Group, and Leron Gubler, President and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce talk about the future of Hollywood and the efforts to revitalize the community through residential and commercial development.

The Volcker Report

Larry talks with Marc Blitz, Fletcher Jones Professor of Political Philosophy at Claremont McKenna College, and Maggie Farley, UN correspondent for the Los Angeles Times about the U.N. Oil for Food program and the Volcker Commission Report, a 500-page document detailing alleged corruption by countries involved in the program. After an 18-month inquiry into the scandal, the commission found that half of the 4,500 companies taking part in the oil-for-food program paid kickbacks and surcharges to Saddam Hussein. The findings are the committee’s fifth and final report on the investigation led by Paul Volcker, former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board.
