The Future of Immigration Reform Legislation

AirTalk for May 26, 2006

The Senate passed a sweeping immigration reform bill Thursday, which would increase border security and offer a path to citizenship to most illegal immigrants currently in the U.S. Now the debate about immigration really begins, as legislators will attempt to hammer out a compromise between the Senate bill and the Sensenbrenner bill passed by the House in December. Host Larry Mantle talks with Emily Heil, reporter with National Journal's Congress Daily, about the differences and similarities between the two bills, and the process of trying to come up with one comprehensive reform package.

Propostion 82: The "Preschool For All" Initiative

AirTalk for May 26, 2006

Larry Mantle moderates a debate about Proposition 82. If passed by California voters on June 6th, a tax on high earners will be imposed to fund a program to provide preschool for every 4-year-old in California. The initiative would also require preschool teachers to be highly trained and credentialed. Larry Mantle talks with proponent Maryanne O'Sullivan of Preschool California and opponent Lisa Snell of the Reason Foundation.
