Larry Mantle will discuss the history of the Ambassador Hotel and explore a range of plans that the Los Angeles Unified School District has to build three schools on the hotel site. Larry talks with Ken Bernstein, Director of Preservation Issues for the Los Angeles Conservancy, the largest local preservation organization in the country, Carlyn Frank Benjamin, who lived as a child in the Ambassador Hotel, from 1921 soon after her birth to 1938, and Daniel Rosenfeld, principal in Urban Partners LLC. His firm was hired by LAUSD to advise the District on the evaluation of the option for the reuse of the Ambassador site for the construction of three schools.

Larry talks with Charles Phoenix, kitsch-culture, archivist-humorist-author and creator/performer of the "God Bless Americana" slideshows currently playing at the Egyptian Theater, Chris Nichols, Assistant Editor, Los Angeles magazine and has worked in the historic preservation community for 15 years, and Ken Bernstein, Director of Preservation Issues for the Los Angeles Conservancy.
