Court Rules on Punitive Damages against L.A. Archdiocese
An LA County Superior Court judge ruled Wednesday that four plaintiffs can seek punitive damages against the Los Angeles Archdiocese for failing to protect them from a priest they accused of sexual abuse. If the more than 500 people who allege they were abused by priests in the LA Archdiocese were granted permission to seek punitive damages, in addition to compensatory damages, the church could face significant financial risk. Larry Mantle talks with Mary Grady, Western Regional Director of SNAP (the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests) and attorney Steve Brady about the court's decision and the effect it may have future lawsuits against the church.
