Sheriff Lee Baca's Strategy In Response To Shooting
Two weeks ago, nine sheriff’s deputies fired 120 shots at the car of an unarmed suspect, peppering a Compton neighborhood with dozens of rounds of ammunition. Larry Mantle and guests Lee Baca, Los Angeles County Sheriff, Greg Emerson, the attorney representing 10 of the 11 deputies involved in the shooting, and Joe Domanick, Senior Fellow in Criminal Justice at USC Annenberg Institute for Justice and Journalism talk about the strategy of having the deputies make a public apology in a televised press conference and go door-to-door in the affected neighborhood to discuss the incident with residents.
Afghanistan Update
Larry Mantle talks with Paul Richter, LA Times staff writer at the D.C. Bureau, Thomas Goutierre, Director of International Studies and Programs and Director of the Center for Afghanistan Studies at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and Larry Goodson, Director of Middle East Studies at the US Army War College in the Department of National Security and Strategy about the current situation in Afghanistan.
South Korean Stem Cell Research Breakthrough
South Korean scientists have produced 11 human embryo clones from ailing patients and harvested individualized stem cells from them. Now there is more hope than ever that therapeutic cells can be made to help people with spinal cord injuries, Parkinson’s disease, and illnesses. Larry Mantle talks with Jerry Zack, Ph.D., Associate Academic Director UCLA Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Medicine, and Dr. Felicia Cohn, Director of Medical Ethics for the University of Irvine School of Medicine.
Social Security
