AirTalk for May 19, 2006

On April 18, L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa gave his first State of the City speech in which he laid out his proposed plan to revise the governance of the Los Angeles Unified School District. At the heart of Villaraigosa's reform plan is his desire to make the Mayor accountable for the district's performance. His intention is to give voters the power to "hire and fire one person accountable to parents, teachers and taxpayers; a leader who is ultimately responsible for the system-wide performance." Larry Mantle moderates a panel discussion with key players debating the Mayor's proposal.
